Next-generation consoles helped boost gaming software and hardware sales in the U.S. since June. Video game sales, including hardware and accessories, jumped 16% from a year earlier to $514.3 million, according to market researcher NPD Group. That increase was driven by the continued success of Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One, the latest iterations of their gaming consoles which had near simultaneous releases last November. PlayStation 4 held its lead as top-selling console, a spot it has commanded over Xbox for seven consecutive months. Sony said it has sold more than 10 million units worldwide so far.
