News broke Tuesday morning that Philip Morris and Altria (MO) - Get Altria Group Inc Report were discussing a potential all-stock deal that Philip Morris (PM) - Get Philip Morris International Inc. Report called "a merger of equals."
Philip Morris confirmed in a statement that was in discussions with its former partner, noting there is "no assurance that any agreement or transaction will result from these discussions. Additionally, there can be no assurance that if an agreement is reached, that a transaction will be completed."
Jim Cramer weighed in on the merger, saying that this may be a time to put the politics aside.
"So I think that combined, uh, you're making a bet on the smokeless future, which is Juul because tobacco as the combustible tobacco just keeps going down. I think this is one of those instances where you got to forget about your politics," said Cramer.
