Small Businesses are Bullish on 2015, but Have Two Big Worries
TheStreet's Scott Gamm speaks with Robb Hilson, Bank of America's small business executive about how small business owners remain optimistic about 2015, but face challenges such as dysfunction in Washington and rising health care costs. Most small business owners cite Washington gridlock as the main concern heading into 2015, according to Bank of America's annual State of Small Business survey, which polls 1,000 business owners with annual revenue under $5 million. Some 73% are worried about the competence of government leaders, while 72% face trepidation over health care costs. Perhaps most eye-catchingly, 63% worry about commodity prices, despite the precipitous drop of crude prices in recent months. Plus, 45% of small business owners think economic conditions will strengthen over the next year, compared to 41% last year.
