While at this point most of us are familiar with the likes of Black Friday and Amazon (AMZN) Prime Day, there's a shopping holiday across the pond that you might not know about.

Every November, Chinese commercial giant Alibaba (BABA) kicks off its annual Singles Day online-shopping extravaganza on the 11th of the month.

The holiday began back in 2009 as an 'Anti-Valentine's Day' that encouraged singles to well 'treat yo' self.'

It has since grown into a huge revenue-driver for Alibaba as well as an indicator of consumer sentiment. In 2017, it brought in $25.3 billion.
