Shutterfly is expecting a strong holiday sales season due to its new product additions including GrooveBook's photo albums, said the company's CEO Jeff Housenbold. Housenbold added that the $14.4 million GrooveBook purchase, which was spurred by the company's appearance on Shark Tank, exposes Shutterfly to a younger demographic and improves its mobile offerings. He said GrooveBook has a highly defensible patent which made it attractive in a business where barriers to entry are low and brand recognition is paramount. Finally, Housenbold said he is focused on staying independent and being the leader in monetizing photos in a highly fragmented market.
