The icy standoff over gas supply between Moscow and Kiev appears to be thawing out. A deal has been struck that will guarantee Russian gas exports flow into Ukraine throughout the Winter. That's despite the fighting still taking place in Eastern Ukraine. The deal comes following drawn out disputes over payments and months of gridlock. The EU Commission President called the final deal a "very important agreement." The EU has said previously that Ukraine would settle its $3.1 billion energy debt to Russia by the end of the year. For new gas deliveries, Ukraine must pay $385 per 1,000 cubic meters, in advance of delivery.
