Harsh winter conditions are intensifying in Ukraine but Russian gas talks remain firmly on ice as conversations reached a deadlock in Brussels on Thursday. Negotiations to guarantee Russian gas imports into Ukraine throughout the winter months have stalled once again. Russian president Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko reportedly agreed on a gas deal outline last month but no official agreement has so far been drafted between Moscow and Kiev. Financial issues, separatist unrest in Ukraine and payment guarantees for Moscow have all allegedly slowed negotiations. The EU-brokered talks are expected to continue later on Thursday.
