Ricoh Announces the R at CES, a Camera That Makes 24 Hour 360-Degree Live Streaming Possible
It's releasing the camera for developers to begin making their own applications.
Is the future of content consumption and distribution through 360 degree video and virtual reality? While everything is a bit iffy at this point, Ricoh released the R, a spherical camera that can live stream for 24 hours. While the 2k resolution at 30 frames per second isn't quite up to par for super realistic VR, it's still a step forward. Ricoh is aware that people are somewhat confused with what to do with 360-degree streaming technology at this point, so they're opening up the source code for developers to play with. The camera will be available for developers to start building their own applications in the second quarter of this year.
