Individual TD Ameritrade clients bought the dips in September according to the Investor Movement Index (IMX) after reducing equity exposure in August, said JJ Kinahan, Chief Strategist at TD Ameritrade. The IMX, a proprietary index which tracks the buying patterns of individual investors, read 5.79 in September compared to 5.68 in August, despite the S&P 500 falling over the same period. Kinahan said Apple and Yahoo were popular buys in the wake of the iPhone 6 release and the Alibaba IPO. Meanwhile, he said Facebook reached a new high and was a popular sell, along with chipmaker Intel.
