Qualcomm (QCOM) - Get Report is negotiating the purchase of NXP Semiconductors (NXPI) - Get Report in a deal that could be valued at more than $30 billion. That's according to The Wall Street Journal. The entire semiconductor industry has seen an increase in M&A activity in recent quarters, including Avago's $37 billion purchase of Broadcom last year. NXP itself has been active in the M&A market recently, acquiring Freescale Semiconductor for $12 billion last year. Shares of NXP and Qualcomm were both higher in Friday's session.
