Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solis says that Costa Rica is working very strongly towards becoming the first Central American country to have civil unions. President Solis says that civil and patrimonial rights ought to be assured. Solis insists that it is needed as a country. It is not a question of marriage but rather a question of human rights: people having the right to be with his or her loved one if they have hospital situations, problems with inheritance of property, or to insure one another. President Solis has high hopes civil unions will be achieved in his home country of Costa Rica in the not too distant future.
