President Donald Trump Orders Airstrikes in Syria
President Donald Trump on Thursday night ordered airstrikes in Syria following a deadly chemical weapons attack this week. Trump said the strikes were in the "national security interest," focused on an airfield and were launched from the USS Porter and the USS Ross. Around 59 Tomahawk missiles hit multiple targets, according the Pentagon.
Russia condemned the airstrikes, saying they would cause "significant damage to U.S.-Russia ties." Russia has called for a UN Security Council meeting on the U.S. airstrikes in Syria, Agence France Presses reported, after it said the action was an "act of aggression." Russia also said it was suspending its agreement to communicate with the U.S. over the use of Syrian airspace, AFP reported.
