'Pitch Perfect 2' Tops 'Mad Max: Fury Road' At U.S. Box Office
Universal's (GE) 'Pitch Perfect 2' has hit the top note at the U.S. movie box office, taking in $70.3 million in its first weekend. It was the biggest ever opening for a musical movie and the feature film debut of director Elizabeth Banks. The acapella comedy sequel has already outgrossed the entire theatrical run of the original 'Pitch Perfect' movie. Warner Brothers' (TWX) 'Mad Max: Fury Road' put up some tough competition at the box office, raking in $44.4 million and taking the number two spot. The remake of the original apocalyptic car chase franchise cashed in on rave reviews but still has a lot of ground to cover before it breaks even on the production budget. 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron' moved down to third place on the box office chart, but has just passed the $1 billion mark worldwide.
