Panera Bread founder Ron Shaich may have handed off the CEO reigns on Jan. 1, but he is far from retired. 

Shaich is hitting the road to get the word out on the reason CEOs must stay focused on long-term investing. In effect, a message that goes counter to the short-term mindset of activist investors. Shaich is quick to praise Blackrock (BLK) - Get Report CEO Larry Fink's latest missive to major companies. 

In his new annual letter to shareholders, Fink encouraged companies to find their "sense of purpose." By finding their purpose, Fink believes, companies could create value for their shareholders and society at large.
