Following a highly controversial Academy Awards last year when racial issues were brought to the red carpet under the trending hashtag #OscarsSoWhite, this year's list of nominations proves much more diverse. Seven actors of color received nods for leading or supporting roles, and films highlighting minority groups including Fences and Hidden Figures are up for Best Picture.
