Ohio State University is demonstrating how college football can mean big business. After the Buckeyes' national championship victory, the Columbus Dispatch reports the university expects a $3 million increase this year in royalties from licensed merchandise sales. Fans continue to scoop up national championship gear after the Buckeyes surprised with their 42-20 victory over the University of Oregon to win the final playoff spot, despite having lost two starting quarterbacks to injuries. Ohio State hadn't won a championship since 2002. The university's academic affairs will be a big benefactor of the increase in royalties, receiving more than half of each dollar that comes into the school's licensing office.
