Non-Farm Payrolls Top Estimates, Unemployment Rate Stays at 5.8%

The unemployment rate for November held steady at 5.8%, with 321,000 jobs created during the month. This eclipsed estimates of 230,000 non-farm payrolls. Plus, the October jobs numbers were revised upward to 243,000 from a previously reported 214,000 and September's numbers now stand at 271,000 jobs, compared to 256,000. Average hourly wages for the month rose 0.4% and 2.1% year-over-year. There are still too many part-time workers (6.9 million), who are unable to find full-time work. TheStreet's Scott Gamm speaks with Ben Garber, an economist with Moody's Analytics about Friday's jobs report, wages and the state of the economy.
