After a slew of major technology companies like Facebook and Google spent billions on acquiring young start-ups in 2014, the pace of deals has recently slowed. Yet, acquirers in Silicon Valley are building cash and the list of tech companies worth a billion or more is growing. So what might the next wave of acquisitions look like? SNL Kagan estimates that U.S. revenue from gaming titles on phones and tablets surpassed $5 billion for the first time last year. Activity in companies developing technology for the 'Internet of Things' is also expected, with recent big deals from the likes of Amazon and NXP Semiconductor. We've also seen demand for satellite services and the pursuit of spreading Internet activity through the use of drones and satellites.
