News Out of Europe: Pound Secures Biggest Single-Day Gain Since 1998
The British currency surged after the U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May outlined a Brexit plan.
The pound has secured its biggest single-day gain since at least 1998. The surge in the British currency followed the U.K. Prime Minister's speech outlining the government's plan for Brexit.
Publishing group Pearson's (PSO) - Get Report shares have hit an 8-year low. The company said profits would underperform.
Deutsche Bank (DB) - Get Report settled with the U.S. Department of Justice over the company's sale of toxic mortgage-backed securities during the U.S. housing bubble. The bank's shares were little changed by the news, despite the scale of the $7.2 billion settlement.
U.K. unemployment held at an 11-year low. However, the number of people in work fell for the second consecutive month.
