New York City and San Francisco Boast Priciest Rents in the U.S.
U.S. apartment landlords raised rents by an average of 0.8% in the fourth quarter of 2013 to $1,083 a month, according to a new report by real-estate research firm Reis. Although that's below the prior quarter's 1% increase, it is a gain over the 0.6% rise seen in the last quarter of 2012. Reis found that New York City has the highest average rent in the country, followed by San Francisco and Fairfield County. Meanwhile, Reis found that New Haven, Connecticut has the tightest rental market, with the lowest vacancy rate of 2.2%.
