Netflix to Co-Produce ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ Sequel
Netflix made a deal with The Weinstein Company for its sequel to the Oscar-winning movie 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' to hit IMAX theaters and the streaming-video service simultaneously next August. Co-Chairman of the Weinstein Company, Harvey Weinstein said, 'The movie-going experience is evolving quickly and profoundly, and Netflix is unquestionably at the forefront of that movement.' Even though Netflix has been eyeing day-and-date releases of movies, the fear is that film distributors and movie theaters must adapt to a no grace period between when a movie debuts in a theater and when it arrives on streaming. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2 is the first movie that Netflix will be streaming on the first date of the film's debut in theaters. Netflix has a deal with The Weinstein Company to co-produce more film titles and the two companies have been collaborating on the television production, Marco Polo.
