Negotiators Want to Secure a NAFTA Deal by Early Next Year
The first round of talks kick off this week
According to a U.S. official, negotiators are seeking to reach a deal on NAFTA by early next year, before Mexico's presidential election campaign begins.
The comments were made as the U.S. Trade Representative revealed that all sides are expected to submit a significant number of proposals in the first week of discussions. The American side are seeing to shrink the U.S. goods trade deficit with Mexico and Canada during the renegotiation.
The talks come after President Trump threatened to abandon the 1994 agreement.
