In another eyebrow-raising social-media move, Tesla (TSLA) - Get Report CEO Elon Musk has revealed that he is quitting Twitter (TWTR) - Get Report amid what appears from his comments to be his own personal uncertainty over its usefulness - or about the usefulness of the platform in general.

"Not sure about good of Twitter," Musk tweeted on Friday, followed by "Reddit still seems good," and then, "going offline." As of Monday, his twitter account was still visible, meaning it had not yet been deleted.

It is the second time in six months that Musk has purportedly abandoned the 280-character digital soap box amid what has been perceived as both his disdain for the forum as well as ire from regulators, most notably the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

In June, the eccentric billionaire also announced that he had deleted his Twitter account, while also changing his Twitter display name to "Daddy DotCom." And earlier this year, he claimed on Twitter that he was taking Tesla private, and then did not, prompting the SEC to find him in contempt - and fine him $20 million.

While Musk's motives - and seriousness - about quitting Twitter for good remain unclear, what is clear is that it has little impact for investors in either company.

Shares of Tesla were moderately lower on Monday, down 0.34% at $312.24, while shares of Twitter were up a little more than 1% at $29.92.

As of mid-day on Monday, Musk's Twitter account, @elonmusk, was still online, showing 29.2 million followers, and 80 following.
