In the Morning Market Stir for Wednesday, August 13, Alan Knuckman checks in from the floor of the CME with an update on yesterday’s trading activity and where we stand this AM. Equity indices headed lower Tuesday morning before rallying into the close. The S&P closed down 2 points to 1,930.5, the Dow finished positive to 16,419, and the Nasdaq ended the day at 3,903. The dollar was up to 81.56, and the Euro was down to 133.69. Bonds headed lower to 138’31. Crude still consolidating, finishing the day at 97.37. Gold was unchanged at $1,310.5. Equities are pushing new highs relative to Monday’s price action, with the dollar the Euro, bonds, crude, and gold all relatively unchanged. US retail sales data is released at 8:30 and could have an impact on the market’s next move.
