Morning Market Stir: S&P Just Under 2,000 Heading into Weekend
Friday, September 12 – Alan Knuckman reports from the floor of the CME Group in Chicago this morning after a day of mixed action across markets. After a gap lower in the morning, equities rallied during the day, with the E-Mini S&P futures finishing up but just about unchanged at 1,997 and the Dow was down slightly to 17,043, while the Nasdaq was down 2 points to 4,091. The dollar closed up again at 84.46, with the Euro also up slightly to 1.2933. Bonds didn’t do much, up 3 to 137’09. Crude oil made new 16-month lows, falling to 90.43 before reversing and closing at 92.83. Gold kept falling, down 6 at 1,239, breaking the June lows. This morning equities are up slightly, with currencies not doing much. Bonds continue drifting lower, as crude is attempting to follow through after yesterday’s reversal, and gold is unchanged.
