Morning Market Stir: Selling Persists on Monday as Equities Reverse after Last Week's Highs
Equity markets remain weak.
Tuesday, September 23 – Alan Knuckman reports from the floor of the CME Group in Chicago, where equities saw strong selling to start the week on Monday. The S&P fell to 1,986, the Dow to 17,099, and the Nasdaq led the way, falling 0.9% to 4,053. The dollar consolidated just under the 85 level, closing at 84.86, with the Euro down to 1.2843. Bonds were up slightly to 136'24, with crude remaining weak at 90.90, and gold finishing at 1,218. This morning equity markets remain weak, not yet showing signs of a bounce. The dollar is off, allowing the Euro to retrace a bit, and bonds seem to be getting a flight to safety bid. Crude and gold are up early on.
