Morning Market Stir: Negative Weekly Close for First Time in a Month
Monday, September 15 – Alan Knuckman reports from the floor of the CME Group in Chicago this Monday morning, following a week in which equity markets finished negative for the first time in more than a month. The S&P futures lost 1% on the week, finishing at1,984.75. The Dow finished under 17,000 at 16,991, and the Nasdaq closed at 4069.75, following a reversal in which the tech index saw new highs before heading lower. The dollar closed up for the week again at 84.38, with the Euro unchanged for the week at 1.2949. Bonds sold off on Friday, closing down at 135’47. Crude failed to follow through from an attempted reversal on Thursday, finishing lower at 92.30. Gold kept falling, down to 1,231.25. This morning equities are down slightly, with the dollar continuing to show strength. Bonds are attempting to bounce after Friday’s sharp decline, while crude continues losing ground and gold looks for support around the 1,230 level.
