In the Morning Market Stir for Thursday, August 14, Alan Knuckman recaps Wednesday’s session which saw equities reach new highs for the month. The S&P E-minis were up .5% to 1,944.75, the Dow was up 100 points to 16,619, and the Nasdaq was again the strongest of the three, up 1% to 3,946. The dollar was firm, up 10 ticks to 81.66, and the Euro also held at 1.337. Bonds closed near their recent highs at 139’15. Crude stayed in its range at 97.60. Gold was up $4 despite dollar strength, up to $1,314. Equity futures are up this morning, the dollar is off slightly, and the Euro is attempting to regain the 1.34 level. Bonds are holding gains and remain strong. Crude oil is still between $97-$98, and gold is hanging around yesterday’s close.
