In the Morning Market Stir for Tuesday, August 12, Alan Knuckman recaps Monday’s action in which markets opened above Friday’s close, headed higher, and then drifted slightly into the close. The S&P finished at 1,932, the Dow at 16,515, and the Nasdaq at 3,905. The dollar was up on the day to 81.54, with the Euro further weakening to 133.84. Bonds were unchanged at 139’13. Crude was up to 98.08, with gold not doing much, down .50 cents to $1,310.5. Equity indexes are up slightly this morning, but the dollar is strong and the Euro is again weak. Bonds are hanging around above 139, while crude is heading lower and gold continues to show strength.
