Tuesday, September 16 – Alan Knuckman reports from the floor of the CME Group in Chicago, where equity markets were mixed yesterday as major growth stocks sold off precipitously. The S&P finished unchanged at 1,976, with the Dow actually closing higher at 16,943, while the Nasdaq got hit hard, falling 1% to 4,025. The dollar continued marching higher at 84.40, with the Euro red on the day at 1.2945. Bonds got a lift to 136’04. Crude had a wide range, almost making new relative lows before closing positive at 92.92, up 65 cents. Gold had a positive day as it attempted to firm up at 1,235. This morning equity markets are slightly below yesterday’s closing levels. The dollar is relatively unchanged, while the Euro and bonds are up. Crude is down just a bit while gold is higher and attempting to take out yesterday’s highs.
