Morning Market Stir: Market Chugging Along
In the Morning Market Stir for Thursday, August 21, Alan Knuckman recaps Wednesday’s session which equities continued rising on low volume. The S&P reached new all-time highs, before closing at 1,983.25. The Dow led for the day, closing at 16,950, and the Nasdaq finished at 4,039, also reaching new 14-year highs. The dollar broke out in a big way, hitting 82.28, pushing the Euro to 1.3265. Treasuries failed to regain momentum, closing at 139’22. Oil attempted to stem some of its losses, up slightly to 93.45, with gold down at 1,295. This morning, equities push higher with the S&P again hitting new all-time highs, and the dollar is pushing higher as the euro drifts down. Bonds are not doing much, while crude is lower, along with gold which has broken down again threatening 1,280 and below.
