Morning Market Stir: Equity Indexes Attempt to Hold Gains After a Bounce

Risk back on as dollar comes off

Monday, October 20 – Alan Knuckman reports from the floor of the CME Group in Chicago, where equities made new relative lows last week before a big bounce back. On Friday, the S&P e-mini futures closed at 1,881, down 1% for the week. The Dow finished at 16,309, and the Nasdaq ended at 3,804. The dollar was firm to end the week at 85.21, dropping the Euro to 1.2778. Bonds were a bit lower on Friday at 142'29. Crude was unchanged at 82.06 and gold closed at 1,239. This morning, equities have pulled back a bit following the IBM earnings miss. The Euro, dollar, and bonds have not moved much thus far. Crude is also largely unchanged, with gold continuing to show some strength.
