In a bizarre event that could only happen in Hollywood, "La La Land" was mistakenly crowned best picture at the 89th Academy Awards on Sunday evening. The fluke occurred when Warren Beatty was handed the wrong envelope, one that contained Emma Stone's best actress win. The fiasco saw the entire "La La Land" gang take the stage before it was later revealed that "Moonlight" had actually won the prestigious award.

Though "La La Land's" cast and crew had to give up their best picture "win" to "Moonlight," they can rest easy knowing they took home a different kind of gold. "La La Land" has earned $339.6 million compared to "Moonlight's" $22.4 million. "Moonlight" follows a long tradition of films to be remembered for artistry rather than dollar signs.
