Nicole Sherrod, Managing Director at TD Ameritrade says the shift toward mobile is a secular trend, as mobile usage has grown by 125% over the last two years and currently 13% of trades are placed using a mobile device. The mobile experience offers users full functionality in a presentation that is better suited for mobile devices. In addition to a near-professional platform on the go, TD Ameritrade has created a community of traders, ThinkorSwim Sharing, where users can share their custom trading environments with one another. For example, TD Ameritrade held the ThinkorSwim Challenge, in which college students competed in a trading competition which was won by the University of North Texas, whose team turned a portfolio of $500,000 into $1.6 million in four weeks using complex options strategies.
