Universal Studios’ 'Minions' topped the box office charts on its debut weekend, proving once again that Universal is winning this summer’s box office sales numbers. 'Jurassic World', another hit from Universal Studios that debuted this summer, came in second for the weekend while Disney (DIS) Pixar’s 'Inside Out' fell to third. But even though the dinosaur-blockbuster isn’t at the top of the sales charts any longer, at a total gross of $590 million, it is Universal’s top grossing movie since the studio’s inception. Coming in second on Universal’s top grossing movies is 'Despicable Me 2', the prequel to 'Minions'. 'Minions' earned $115 million in domestic box office sales over the weekend with an additional $280 million earned outside of the United States, making it the second biggest opening for an animated movie ever and the third biggest opening for any of Universal Studio’s movies.
