Stocks enjoyed solid gains in midday trading Tuesday as Federal Reserve members convened for one of their most highly-anticipated meetings in history. A rate hike is expected to be announced tomorrow afternoon. Energy also boosted markets as crude continued to recover from last week's selloff. Lumber Liquidators (LL) spiked after hedge fund manager Whitney Tilson covered his short position. Tilson said he received information senior management had not been aware the company was selling products with unsafe Chinese-made laminate. Visa (V) moved higher after Goldman Sachs analysts added the stock to its 'conviction buy' list. Analysts said the credit card company will see growth opportunities in Europe.
