Midday Report: Boeing Weighs on Dow; Investors Overlook Weak Earnings
The S&P 500 was higher as investors overlooked a series of disappointing earnings. AT&T (T) - Get Report , Starbucks (SBUX) - Get Report , and Chipotle (CMG) - Get Reportall reported a weaker-than-expected second quarter. Boeing (BA) - Get Report weighed heavily on the Dow after warning of a $2 billion second-quarter charge tied to a number of its aircraft. The aerospace company has suffered weaker demand for its larger planes, an industry-wide problem that has also hit peers Honeywell (HON) - Get Report and Airbus. PayPal (PYPL) - Get Report announced a partnership with Visa wherein a greater number of stores will be able to accept payment through the online company. The payments platform also beat analysts' estimates in its recent quarter. Pandora (P) was active after reporting a dip in the number of listeners over its recent quarter. Analysts had expected the number of active listeners to increase in the three months to June. TheStreet's Keris Lahiff reports from Wall Street.
