Microsoft's Bill Gates Says Apple Should Work With the FBI

U.S. stocks are looking to start Tuesday lower as oil prices slip. Both groups rallied Monday and the Dow Jones Industrial Average left correction territory behind. European stocks also retreated after hitting 3 week highs on Monday. Microsoft (MSFT) founder Bill Gates is coming down on the side of the FBI in its battle with Apple (AAPL) over encryption. He told the Financial Times that the government is asking for help in one case and doesn't want to make this a 'general thing'. Meanwhile, protests are planned at Apple stores around the globe in support of the tech giant in its fight for privacy. Honeywell (HON) and United Technologies (UTX) were reportedly involved in merger talks but discussions broke down on regulatory issues as well as who would lead the combined company. Existing home sales for January are released today. Wall Street with watch the GOP caucuses in Nevada and Minneapolis Federal Reserve President Neal Kashkari will speak about the economy today.
