The summer vacation season unofficially kicks off this weekend as Americans honor soldiers killed in battle on Memorial Day weekend.
Its also an important weekend for recreational vehicle renting service Outdoorsy, which pairs RV owners with customers looking to rent the vehicles for a period of time. Co-founders Jen Young and Jeff Cavins sat down with TheStreet to discuss some of the trends the company is seeing for the three-day weekend.
"Memorial Day is such an important weekend. It obviously Mark's um, an important day for us to recognize the people that have served our country. But it is also considered the kickoff to summer travel season and it is a three day weekend. But, um, our most recent Memorial Day RV travel report actually has the average of bookings at four days. So Americans are taking more than the three day holiday extending that vacation until the fourth day and doing four day trips," Young told TheStreet.
Denver is the top RV destination this year, followed by Sacramento, Austin, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. Las Vegas is also the top pick for last-minute bookings on the company's website.
