Medicaid Officials Call on Congress to Curb New Drug Prices

Medicaid officials from across the U.S have urged Congress to curb the crippling cost of revolutionary new drugs.

Medicaid officials from across the U.S have urged Congress to curb the crippling cost of revolutionary new drugs. A bi partisan group of Medicaid doctors and lawmakers appealed to Capitol hill to intervene, as the price of life saving medical treatments continues to sky rocket. The group suggested that officials should consider all options from outright price caps to federal assistance for poorer states trying to provide the wonder drugs. A new cure for Hepatitis C called Sovaldi currently costs $1 thousand per pill and has just been replaced with an even more expensive successor. So far the pharmaceutical industry has managed to beat back congressional efforts to stem its pricing power but the conversation could now be back on the agenda.
