McDonald's and Mattel Fall Foul of New Millennial Consumer Power
Millennials are the biggest generation in history so far, wielding an incredible buying power. New research from Goldman Sachs (GS) has identified some key millennial trends that are transforming retail and consumer markets: Millennials are health conscious. Sugary cereals are on the down and organic, non GMO brands like Hain Celestial (HAIN) are seeing big sales growth. They're switching McDonald's (MCD) for Chipotle (CMG) and passing these more health conscious choices on to their kids. Millennial parents want toys that teach. Barbie (MAT) sales are dropping in favor of more creative toys like Lego and Hasbro's (HAS) licensed Disney (DIS) toys. Millennials parents also want quick fix convenience. They're more comfortable than ever with shopping online and are open to experimenting with time saving start ups. Companies like Task Rabbit and Blue Apron are becoming main stream staples as Millennials place more financial value on errand services than previous generations.
