Markets End Higher Monday, Despite Dow's Earlier Triple-Digit Drop
Stocks managed to end Monday's session in the green, despite the Dow's triple digit losses earlier in the trading session. All eyes are now on Apple (AAPL) as traders brushed-off IBM's earning miss. Shares of Apple ended Monday's session up more than 2 percent as the street awaits its earnings release after Monday's closing bell. Facebook (FB) was also among the most actively traded stocks on the Nasdaq. A couple of interesting gainers in Monday's session. Sears Holdings (SHLD) is up almost 23 percent. The struggling retailer said it would raise up to $625 million by offering shareholders notes plus warrants. Blackberry (BBRY) also closed with gains, up better than 8 percent. Shares climbed following reports that Chinese company, Lenovo may make a bid for the smartphone maker. Gannett (GCI) closed with gains of about 5% on strong earnings. The owner of USA Today reported earnings up 49%. It will be a big day for earnings on Tuesday. Dow components Coca-Cola (KO), McDonald's (MCD) and Verizon (VZ) are all on tap to report quarterly results.
