In the final hour trading, markets have held onto gains despite rioters storming the Capitol building and forcing the building into lockdown, with leadership, including Vice President Mike Pence, being whisked to undisclosed safe locations.

Protestors interrupted what is traditionally a ceremonial vote to confirm the President-elect.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has ordered a 6 P.M. ET curfew and the National Guard and local law enforcement have been deployed to help regain control of the Capitol.

A spokesperson for D.C. Fire and EMS confirmed multiple injuries sustained due to the riots in addition to reports of multiple of gunshots. The Washington Post has reported that one person has been shot.

After continuing his stance that he would refuse to concede earlier in the day, President Donald Trump has tweeted urging rioters to “remain peaceful.”
