Luxury cars are always a favorite at the annual North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and this year there was a lot to get excited about. But first, what defines automotive luxury? We turned to an expert at the Robb Report for the definitive answer. ‘Luxury is an interesting term and I think people have different definitions of it,’ said Robert Ross, Automotive Editor at the magazine. ‘Some people say that a luxury product is something that’s rare and it takes a long time to acquire because it has to be hand built. But in many ways luxury can also be produced in greater volume. Mercedes-Benz cars are not necessarily rare but they certainly represent luxury. BMW, Audi, Cadillac, these are all brands that produce cars en masse and yet aspire to some very high standards of finish and performance,’ he added. The Robb Report was the official media partner at this year’s Auto Show.
