In the wake of Log4J vulnerability, the White House is hosting leading tech companies to discuss the security of open-source software on Thursday. Executives from Apple  (AAPL) - Get Apple Inc. Report, Google  (GOOGL) - Get Alphabet Inc. Class A Report, Amazon  (AMZN) - Get, Inc. Report, Meta  (MVRS) - Get Meta Report, Microsoft  (MSFT) - Get Microsoft Corporation Report, IBM  (IBM) - Get International Business Machines Corporation Report, and others are joining the meeting.

Developed by Apache Software Foundation, Log4J is open-source software that developers use for logging incidents on apps or programs. 

In simple terms, this software helps to track bugs and program crashes; the information later is used in software improvements.

However, last November, Alibaba  (BABA) - Get Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. Report employees spotted a flaw in Log4J, which easily allows hackers to exploit the system.

Microsoft, maker of the video game Minecraft, and other companies have already alerted their users and also offered steps to secure their computers and servers.
