J.P. Morgan Cyber Attack May Have Continued for Months Undetected

The cyber attack against J.P. Morgan that may have resulted in the theft of customer data reportedly went on for months undetected. The coordinated attack started in June, when hackers used malware to penetrate J.P. Morgan's corporate network and began accessing data like customer account information until mid-August, according to Bloomberg, which cited people familiar with the bank's investigation. It reports that the breach was discovered during a routine scan and is now being traced to Russia, where it may have been made in retaliation to U.S.-imposed sanctions. J.P. Morgan spokeswoman Trish Wexler declined to comment on the new reported details about the hacking.
