New year, new chance to eat excessive amounts of pizza.

While you were busy crafting that new year’s resolution (which probably doesn’t include pizza), Papa John’s  (PZZA) - Get Papa John's International, Inc. Report founder and former CEO and chairman John Schnatter announced a new challenge for himself.

In an Instagram post, Schnatter said he plans to break his personal record and eat 50 pizzas in 30 days in 2020.

Last year, Schnatter said in a November interview that he had eaten as many as 40 pizzas in 30 days in 2019.

Schnatter announced his previous record when criticizing the quality of Papa John’s pizzas since he was ousted as chairman of the pizza chain in 2018. "I've had over 40 pizzas in the last 30 days," he said. "And it's not the same pizza. It's not the same product. It just doesn't taste as good,” Schnatter said at the time.

Never a stranger to controversy, Schnatter has remained vocal about Papa John’s since his removal from the chairman role following his use of offensive language during a company conference call.

Schnatter did not specify when he would be taking on his latest challenge, but given his proclivity for public statements, a follow up on Instagram is likely already in the oven.
