Former Vice President Joe Biden is the presumptive Democratic nominee to take on President Trump in November.
Biden, the eldest of four children, was born in 1942. He is 77 years old. Until ten years old, Biden lived in Scranton, Pennsylvania. His family moved to Claymont, Delaware in the early 1950s to look for better work; Biden considers Delaware his home state.
About his youth, Biden has said, "During my adolescent and college years, men and women were changing the country—Martin Luther King, Jr., John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy—and I was swept up in their eloquence, their conviction, the sheer size of their improbable dreams."
Biden studied, history, political science, and law. At just 29 years old, he became one of the youngest people ever elected to the United States Senate.
His life is often said to be marred by tragedy. His wife and daughter died in a car crash but his two sons, Beau and Hunter, survived.
After the accident, Biden began a daily 120-mile pilgrimage to Washington DC and from Wilmington, Delaware, where he lived and raised his sons.
Biden is a six-term Senator. He also served as the Vice President of the United States from 2008 to 2016.
The former VP is running on a moderate Democratic platform where his main issues are health care, climate change, and the economy. He often talks about returning to America during the Obama-era.
He is endorsed by Bernie Sanders, Barack Obama, and Elizabeth Warren and has committed to choosing a female as his running mate, though his pick has not yet been announced.
Forbes has estimated Biden’s net worth at $9 million.
