The Senate has confirmed Janet Yellen as Treasury Secretary Friday, making her the first woman to serve in the role.
Yellen, 74, preceded Jerome Powell as chair of the Federal Reserve, serving as the head of the federal bank from 2014 to 2018 after being nominated by President Barack Obama.
Before becoming the first female president of the Fed, Yellen served as vice chair under Ben Bernanke from 2010 to 2014, amid the economic recovery from the 2008 financial crisis.
