JetBlue (JBLU) - Get Report says revenue per available seat mile, an industry benchmark, would decline by 8% to 9% in January. JetBlue says it was "disappointed" by January trends and cited the impacts of the holiday calendar, a 2016 winter storm and the opening of new markets.
March revenue will likely be impacted as Easter moves to April 2017 from March 2016.
For the last three months of 2016, revenue declined 1.7%.
JetBlue's executives say the airline will be taking steps very soon to remedy the declines. One solution could be cutting flights to cities that aren't seeing lots of passengers.
